Stingrays welcome back Keller

North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Derek Keller.


The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Keller, 24, recorded two goals and 12 assists for 14 points in 29 games with the Stingrays last season and dressed in four postseason contests grabbing three assists. Prior to turning pro, the Wilkie, Saskatchewan, native spent four years at St. Lawrence University where he appeared in 133 games scoring 37 points (13g-24a).

Before entering the college ranks, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound defenseman competed for the Battlefords North Stars of the SJHL where he was a member of two ITECH championship teams and received the Outstanding Defenseman Award twice. Keller also played baseball and was a member of two league and provincial championship teams.
