Tarkir returns to Stingrays lineup

North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has signed defenseman Zach Tarkir 


The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Tarkir, 27, skated in 44 games with the Hannover Indians of the 2.Bundesliga in Germany last season scoring five goals and 17 assists for 22 points. The Fresno, Calif., native spent parts of the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons with the Stingrays totaling 25 points (5g-20a) in 54 contests and appeared in all 23 playoff games for the Stingrays in 2009 netting 15 points (5g-10a) as the team captured their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup title. In December 2009, the 6-foot, 167-pound defenseman was named a starter for the American Conference in the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game in Ontario.

Selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Tarkir saw American Hockey League action with the Lowell Devils, Portland Pirates, Lake Erie Monsters, Springfield Falcons and Norfolk Admirals over four seasons totaling three goals and 16 assists for 19 points in 83 games.
