PRINCETON, N.J. – Ryan Nie of the Kalamazoo Wings is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 1-7.
He also received the honor for the week of Oct. 19-25, 2009.
The 24 year old went 3-0-1 with 125 saves, a goals-against average of 3.42 and a save percentage of .899. Nie started the week off with a 41-save, 5-4 shootout victory over Johnstown on March 4 before posting back-to-back wins at Reading on March 5 and at Elmira on March 6.
The Naticoke, Ontario native is 21-9-3 with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 33 games this season with the K-Wings. His 21 wins are tied for the league lead and his three shutouts are tied for second. Nie also played one game this season with Houston of the American Hockey League making 14 saves in 58 minutes of play.
He played for Cincinnati in 2008-09 and was 16-6-0 with three shutouts and a goals-against average of 2.69 in 24 regular-season games and 3-2 record with a shutout and a goals-against average of 2.35 in the Kelly Cup Playoffs to help the Cyclones reach the American Conference Finals. He began the season with Bakersfield going 6-6-2 with a goals-against average of 3.31 before appearing in one game for Elmira where he was 0-1-0 with a goals-against average of 5.06.
In 2007-08, Nie was 29-12-4 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.80 and a save percentage of .897 in 49 games for the Johnstown Chiefs. He also played in one game for Providence of the AHL making 10 saves in 43 minutes of duty.
Nie played for Kalamazoo in the United Hockey League as a rookie in 2006-07 and was 20-8-4 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.02 and a save percentage of .929 in 35 regular season games and 11-6-2 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.73 in the postseason to help the K-Wings reach the league finals.
