Matt Shasby (D)

Matt established new career-highs in goals, assists, and points in 2006-07 while winning the ECHL plus/minus title at +43 and earning second team all-ECHL honors in 2007 while finishing fourth in voting for the league’s Defenseman of the Year. Shasby completed the ’07 playoffs with eight points (1g-7a) and a +9 rating in 15 games. Scored his first career playoff goal at Utah in 2006 as Alaska completed a four-game sweep. Had a goal and an assist in 4-3 overtime win vs. Las Vegas in Game 2 of the West Finals that year, and was named assistant captain of the team a week later. Shasby finished the 2005-06 regular season at +20. In 2005, he helped Long Beach reach the West Finals, where they were swept in three straight games by Alaska. Shasby played four years at UAA and led all Seawolf defensemen in scoring with 27 points on seven goals and 20 assists in his junior season of 2001-02, earning second team all-WCHA recognition in the process. Matt finished his UAA career with 65 points (12g-53a) in 127 games, then led all Columbus defensemen in scoring in his first year as a pro in 2003-04. He attended Chugiak High School before leaving the area to play two years of junior hockey in the USHL. Matt and his wife, Brooke, live in Anchorage with their two children.
