Biography
His first pro season in 2012-13, though he did see action late last season, following the conclusion of his collegiate eligibility in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters, top affiliate of the NHL Colorado Avalanche. Had impressive 7-games’ stint with Lake Erie, collecting 2-assists, 10-PIM and solid +4 rating. Completed stellar four-year Division I college career at U. Alaska-Fairbanks of the CCHA Conference. Was his team’s top scoring defenseman in each of his final two years while finishing second in his initial two years at the Alaska school. In 2011-12, collected 20-points on 2-goals, 18-assists with those 18-assists leading his team. In 2010-11, registered 21-points, 2-goals, 19-assists, ranking second in the latter category. Model of consistency in college, recording 21, 21 and 20 points respectively in his last 3-seasons of college play. Prior to his collegiate career, attained stardom in the NAHL junior ‘A’ circuit with Santa Fe and Topeka. In 2007-08, also topped his team in scoring from the blue line, finishing third overall in point production, averaging over a point a game with 58-points in 53-games on 12-goals, team-high 46-assists with a brilliant, team-best +41 rating. His junior career numbers: 171-games; 17-goals; 74-assists; 91-points; 339-PIM. His college numerology: 140-games; 12-goals; 60-assists; 72-points; 112-PIM. Younger brother of IceMen All-Star defenseman Matt Gens.
