The native of Traverse City, Michigan was one of the K-Wings assistant captains last year. Leading by example, Kattelus tied a K-Wings’ season high for points in a game with four (2 goals, 2 assists) on 11/03/13 versus the Cincinnati Cyclones and carried point streaks of three or more games on four different occasions.
Kattelus, who was on a two-way AHL contract last season with the Chicago Wolves, has played the past three seasons in Kalamazoo. Last year Kattelus posted 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) in 38 games with the K-Wings. Kattelus continued his scoring touch in the postseason averaging a point a night with three assists in three games.
Two seasons ago Kattelus established a K-Wings’ ECHL record for quickest goal in a game and fastest quickest overall, scoring seven seconds into the 2012 Pink Ice Game versus the Cyclones.
Prior to turning pro, Kattelus was a four-year standout for Michigan Tech University and played two seasons of Junior hockey. In 2005-06, Kattelus was named the NAHL Rookie of the Year, racking up 75 points (35 goals, 40 assists) for the Bismarck Bobcats. A year later, Kattelus helped Indiana Ice advance to the semifinal of the USHL Clark Cup playoffs.
