Royals ink pair of defensemen

READING, Pa. - The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, announced the signing of defensemen Jake Ryczek and Jared Brandt to contracts for the 2021-22 season.Ryczek was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh round (203rd overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He posted 17 points (4g-13a) in 46 games with the Indy Fuel during the 2019-20 season.The 23-year-old played in the United States Hockey League from 2014-17, recording 81 points in 152 games with Waterloo and Sioux City. After playing five games for Providence College at the start of the 2017-18 season, he left to join the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the remainder of the campaign and stayed in Halifax through 2019. There, he scored 60 points (16g-44a) in 84 games and took part in the 2019 Memorial Cup Finals.Brandt split his college career between Miami University and Niagara University. In all, he recorded 37 points (14g-23a) through 115 college from 2016-21. He made the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic Team in 2019 for his efforts in the classroom.Prior to college, the 25-year-old played in the North American Hockey League from 2013-16 and captained the team in 2015-16.
