Glens Falls, N.Y. – The Adirondack Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that they have re-signed defenseman Mike Bergin to a contract for the 2017-18 season.
Bergin, 29, returns to the Thunder for his third season with the team after he appeared in 82 games with Adirondack from 2015–17. The blueliner has amassed 12 points (4g-8a) during his tenure in Glens Falls, along with a +13 rating, the highest among players who have played two seasons with the Thunder. The Ottawa, Ontario native, who was limited to 27 games last season due to injury, also skated in 12 playoff games with the Thunder in 2016, where he collected six penalty minutes.
Prior to joining Adirondack, Bergin skated three professional seasons, including the 2014-15 season, with the Elmira Jackals, where he collected 15 points (3g-12a). Bergin also played two seasons overseas in Sweden with Sodertalje of the Swedish Allsvenskan, where he netted 14 points (4g-10a) over 95 total games of play. Preceding his professional career, Bergin played four seasons of college hockey with the RPI Engineers, where he helped lead the team to the NCAA Tournament in 2011, their first appearance since 1995.
