Cincinnati, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones announced that the team has signed defenseman Matt Cairns for the 2022-23 season.Cairns, 24, enters his second professional season. Last seaeson, he was on an American Hockey League contract with Rochester, but spent the bulk of the in Cincinnati. In 65 games with the Cyclones, he posted 16 points (2g-14a) while leading the team with a +21 rating.
Prior to turning pro, Cairns split his collegiate career at Cornell University and the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He tallied six points (3g-3a) in 61 games with the Big Red, before recording six assists in 28 games as senior with the Bulldogs.
Cairns was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round (84th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
