Shantz named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

David Shantz of the Wichita Thunder is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 14-20. It is the fifth time in his career that he has received the weekly honor.The 29-year-old went 2-0-0 with a 1.51 goals-against average and a save percentage of .962 in two appearances last week.Shantz stopped 36 shots in a 5-1 win against Alaska on Wednesday and made 40 saves in a 4-2 victory over Missouri on Saturday.A native of Burlington, Ontario, Shantz has appeared in 35 games for the Thunder this season posting a record of 11-20-3 with a 3.07 goals-against average and a save percentage of .897.A second-round selection (37th overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Shantz has seen action in 194 career ECHL games with Wichita, Victoria, Elmira, Dayton and Florida posting an overall record of 93-74-18 with seven shutouts, a 2.89 goals-against average and a save percentage of .905. He has also appeared in 60 career American Hockey League games with Rochester and Abbotsford. Shantz spent the 2014-15 season with the University of New Brunswick where he went 18-5-0 with a 2.24 goals-against average and a save percentage of .897. Runners Up: P.J.
