Vanecek named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Vitek Vanecek of the South Carolina Stingrays is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 7-13. It is the second time this season that he has received the weekly honor in addition to being the ECHL Rookie of the Month in November.The 20-year-old went 2-0-0 with one shutout, a 0.50 goals-against average and a .982 save percentage in two appearances last week.Vanecek stopped all 28 shots he faced in a 4-0 win at Greenville on Thursday before making 26 saves in a 3-1 victory against Atlanta on Saturday.A second-round selection (39th overall) of the Washington Capitals in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Vanecek is 14-7-4 with two shutouts in 26 appearances with the Stingrays this season. He leads rookie goaltenders, and is fourth overall, with a 2.08 goals-against average. He also represented the Czech Republic at the 2016 World Junior Tournament in Helsinki, Finland.Prior to turning pro, Vanecek enjoyed extensive international experience representing the Czech Republic. In 2013-14, he posted two shutouts, a 2.64 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in 38 games with Billi Tygri Liberec of the Czech Republic’s under-20 league and also represented the Czech Republic at the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship, posting a 4-2-0 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage to help lead the Czech Republic to a silver medal.Runners Up: Shane Owen, Elmira (2-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .968 save pct.), Rob Madore, Orlando (2-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .948 save pct.) and Martin Ouellette, Reading (2-0-0, 0.50 GAA, .985 save pct.).Also Nominated: Scott Greenham (Evansville), Pat Nagle (Fort Wayne), Keegan Asmundson (Indy), P.J.
