Vitek Vanecek of the South Carolina Stingrays is the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for March.The 20-year-old went 6-0-1 with two shutouts, a 1.27 goals-against average and a save percentage of .949 in seven appearances during the month.Vanecek allowed two goals or less in each of his seven games, making 28 saves in a 4-0 win at Greenville on March 10 and 20 saves in a 2-0 victory at Atlanta on March 26. He made at least 23 saves in six of his seven appearances.Selected by the Washington Capitals in the second round (39th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Vanecek is 17-7-6 with three shutouts in 31 appearances with the Stingrays this season while raning fourth in the league with a 2.09 goals-against average. He also represented the Czech Republic at the 2016 World Junior Tournament in Helsinki, Finland.Prior to turning pro, Vanecek enjoyed extensive international experience representing the Czech Republic. In 2013-14, he posted two shutouts, a 2.64 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in 38 games with Billi Tygri Liberec of the Czech Republic’s under-20 league and also represented the Czech Republic at the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship, posting a 4-2-0 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage to help lead the Czech Republic to a silver medal.
