ECHL teams are always giving back to their local communities. Here's a look at some recent events from select teams.

Adirondack – Before the Adirondack Thunder Playoff Game on May 7 against South Carolina, the team honored hockey player Otto Miller with a puck drop before the game and a customized Thunder jersey. Otto suffered a difficult accident in January, which left him paralyzed from the waist down. The Thunder raised nearly $3,000 for Otto during the season through 50/50 Raffles and the ‘All-In for Otto’ Poker Tournament.

Brampton – On May 27 at the Century Gardens Recreation Centre in Brampton, Parachute Canada hosted the first Safe Kids Week event. During the day there were 548 students from Agnes Taylor Public School who learned about the importance of helmet safety from the Brampton Beast. The event opened up to the general public in the evening giving children an opportunity to participate in free ball hockey, rock climbing (77 participants), basketball (65 participants), swimming (70 participants), and Zumba (30 participants). Beast mascot, Boomer, took part in these activities with the children as well as a special rendition of the songs “Wheels on the Bus” and “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”. Overall the event hosted 2,829 guests who were all informed about safety in various aspects of their lives.

Florida – On May 18, Everblades defenseman Logan Roe and mascot Swampee visited Bonita Springs Charter School to teach kids the basics of hockey. Some of the children were able to dress up in hockey gear, while all of them learned about the importance of each piece of equipment.

Indy – With the INDY 500 being the single largest sporting event and right in the backyard of the Fuel, mascot NITRO was all over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the month of May. NITRO partnered with Jonathan Byrds Racing and spent one of his days with P5 students at the track. Indy Fuel logos could also be seen on the JByrds entry of Brian Clawson #88 car for the 100th running of the 500.

Norfolk - On May 28, the Admirals took part in Bam Bam’s Spring Jam for the Kam Cares Foundation. Norfolk native Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks invited some of his closest celebrity friends, including Marshawn Lynch, Richard Sherman, Allen Iverson, Kyle O’Quinn, and other current and former NBA, MLB, NFL, and WNBA Stars to his hometown for a weekend of fun, fundraising and awareness. The Kam Cares Foundation, started by Kam Chancellor, “seeks to equip children from under-served communities in the Hampton Roads and Seattle areas with educational, health, and wellness tools and resources to position students for greater academic success.” The annual Spring Jam helps to accomplish this goal. The Admirals brought mascot Salty out to meet attendees and have fun with them at the Spring Jam!

Orlando – On May 11, Solar Bears defenseman Eric Baier attended the Student Citizenship Awards that honored students of all ages in the Apopka, Fla. area. He gave a speech on his life experiences as a hockey player and the importance of perseverance as well as helped to present awards to the students!
