NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals announced that the team has named Rod Aldoff head coach for the upcoming season.“We are very excited to announce that Rod Aldoff will be leading our players and prospects in Norfolk,” said Edmonton Oilers Assistant General Manager Bill Scott. “Rod comes to us highly regarded in the industry with a reputation for hard work and getting the most out of his players. He has been a consistent winner including two SPHL championships in the last three seasons. Rod is going to bring a winning tradition to the Admirals which will be very exciting for our players and fans.”Aldoff, 45, makes his ECHL head coaching debut after spending the past three seasons at the helm of the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League. In three seasons with the Ice Flyers, Aldoff captured two SPHL Championships as well as the 2013-14 Coach of the Year. On Jan. 1, 2016, he became the franchise’s all-time winningest coach.Aldoff joined Pensacola after coaching in the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL). In three years at the helm of the Wisconsin and Minnesota Wilderness franchise, he led his club to three Bill Salonen Cup SIJHL regular season and playoff championships. In three seasons he amassed a 145-15-8 overall record while twice being named of SIJHL coach of the year as well as one Gary Cook Memorial Award for league executive of the year.A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Aldoff also guided Team Canada West to a win at the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospects Events in Nova Scotia in November 2012.Aldoff had a 15-year professional playing career as a defenseman in both North America and Europe including parts of five seasons skating in the ECHL.
