Toledo, Ohio - Forward Shane Berschbach has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2016-17 season.
The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings and the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.
Berschbach, a native of Clawson, Mich., led the Walleye in 2015-16 in goals with 24, assists with 43 and in points with 67.
He was honored after the season being named the 2015-16 ECHL Sportsmanship Award winner and finished as a forward on the All-ECHL First Team.
During the season the 25-year-old was named ECHL Player of the Month for January with 18 points (8g-10a) and a +11 over 12 contests.
During his first season in Toledo, Berschbach set a single season Walleye record with 48 assists. He also added 15 goals for a total of 63 points in 65 games during the 2014-15 season, which was second on the team in scoring. Berschbach has totaled 91 assists in two seasons with the Walleye, which is second to Kyle Rogers 108 on the Toledo Walleye all-time list. Only Rogers (177) and Evan Rankin (159) have collected more points as a Walleye player than Berschbach (130). Berschbach spent four years at Western Michigan University prior to turning professional.
As a Bronco, he posted 39 goals and 78 assists as was a +27 in 146 games. He set career highs as a senior with 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points. In 2012, he helped Western Michigan to a CCHA Tournament championship.
