Mavericks re-sign Andrew Courtney

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The Missouri Mavericks announced that they have re-signed forward Andrew Courtney for the 2016-17 season. Additionally, the Mavericks have named Courtney team captain for the upcoming campaign.The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders and the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers.Courtney, 31, has spent the entirety of his five-year career with the Mavericks. He holds the club career records for most games played (318) and goals (140) while ranking second in assists (125) and points (265) and third in penalty minutes (340). Last season, Courtney finished third on the Mavericks with 21 goals and fourth with 40 points.Prior to turning pro, Courtney suited up for the University of Lethbridge (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) from 2006 to 2011. Over the course of five seasons he skated in 106 games with the Pronghorns and netted 72 points (44g-28a).Courtney has served as an alternate captain in each of Missouri’s first two seasons in the ECHL. With today’s announcement he becomes just the fourth captain in the Mavericks’ eight-year history following Carlyle Lewis, Sebastien Thinel and Trevor Ludwig.
