Royals, Pelech agree to terms

Reading, Pa. – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Michael Pelech.

Pelech, who will be entering his eighth year of pro hockey, was acquired by the Royals on March 9, 2016 in a trade with the Norfolk Admirals in exchange for forward Robbie Czarnik and defenseman Sam Windle. Pelech, who was second in scoring on the Admirals with 38 points (9g-29a) and 77 penalty minutes in 57 games with Norfolk at the time of the trade, played the final 13 games of the regular season with Reading, adding two goals and four assists and two penalty minutes. Pelech, who hails from Toronto, Ontario, proceeded to register seven points (1g-6a) and 37 penalty minutes in 14 postseason games with Reading. His playoff goal was part of a three-point performance (1g-2a) in Reading’s 4-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Pelech scored a career-high 25 goals with the Utah Grizzlies in the 2014-15 season. Pelech, who has played 35 career AHL games, was an alternate captain of the 2013 Cincinnati Cyclones club that was defeated by the Royals in the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals. In 479 career pro games, Pelech has scored 327 points (100g-227a) and added 769 penalty minutes.
