NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have agreed to terms with defenseman Steve Weinstein, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Ryan Warsofsky announced.
Weinstein completed his rookie season with Cincinnati last year. He skated in 52 games with the Cyclones, scoring 22 points (3g-19a). The Los Angeles native also appeared in four games with Lake Erie of the American Hockey League, skating for Stingrays Hall of Famer Jared Bednar's squad. He notched one assist for the Monsters.
The 25-year-old played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Bentley College, skating in 145 games and registering 105 points (14g-91a). He served as an alternate captain during his senior season, and was named the Atlantic Hockey Association's Best Defenseman during the 2014-15 campaign. He was a two-time member of the All-Atlantic First Team. Prior to his time in the NCAA, Weinstein helped the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League to three straight championships.
