Glens Falls, N.Y. – The Adirondack Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced that they have signed defenseman Mathieu Brodeur to a standard player contract.
Brodeur returns to the Thunder for his second season with Adirondack and his seventh overall as a professional. Brodeur led all Thunder defensemen with nine goals during the 2015-16 regular season and finished tied with Patch Alber for the team lead in scoring amongst blueliners with 30 points (9g-21a) over 70 games. The 26-year-old also appeared in all 12 postseason contests with the Thunder and collected three points (2g-1a), with his two goals leading all Adirondack defensemen. Brodeur’s goals both came on the man advantage, tying him for the team lead in power-play goals.
Outside of his time with the Thunder, Brodeur has spent the majority of his career in the American Hockey League, with the San Antonio Rampage, Portland Pirates and Albany Devils. The Montreal native has skated in 247 career AHL contests, including two last season with Albany, and has amassed 53 total points (12g-41a). Brodeur also spent time during the 2011-12 season with the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers, where he collected an assist and a +2 rating over 52 games. Brodeur was selected in the third round (76th overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
