Wilson re-signs for fourth season with K-Wings

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, have re-signed Ben Wilson for the 2016-17 season.

Wilson, 25, will suit up for his sixth season of professional hockey and his fourth with the K-Wings. The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman brings grit and toughness to the K-Wings blue line. In 54 games with Kalamazoo last season, the native of Woodstock, Ontario registered seven assists, 76 penalty minutes, and was awarded the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

Before turning pro in 2011, Wilson played his junior hockey with the Olds Grizzlys (AJHL) and Calgary Hitmen (WHL). Wilson was a member of Calgary’s 2010 Western Hockey League championship team and reached the semifinals of the Memorial Cup. Wilson has played 38 career AHL games (Lake Erie Monsters), 51 career CHL games (Denver Cutthroats/Allen Americans) and 137 career ECHL games with the K-Wings during his first five years of professional hockey.
