RAPID CITY, SD - The Rapid City Rush, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes, announced that defenseman Michael Young and forward Ryan Walters have re-signed with the team for the 2016-17 season. Young returned to the Rush last season after establishing himself a major impact for the club in its 2015 Kelly Cup Playoff run. In his first full season in the Black Hills, Young registered career-highs with four goals, 14 assists and 18 points, while also establishing a +3 rating. The 6'3", 220-pound defenseman was on pace for a major breakout season on the Rush blue line, however a string of unfortunate injuries limited him to accomplish what he did in only 35 games.Walters exploded on the scene for the Rush after he was acquired in a trade with the Utah Grizzlies. The 5'11", 190-pound forward registered a five-point night in his Rush debut on March 4 against Fort Wayne and never looked back, recording a point-per-game average with 17 points (5g-12a) in 17 games with the Rush, along with a +6 rating. Before his trade to Rapid City, Walters played the first 53 games of his second professional season with the Utah Grizzlies, and racked up 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points, which was good enough for the third-best scoring total on the Grizzlies roster at that time. Additionally, he joined Utah's AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls, for one contest last year.
