Defenseman Gens re-signs with Americans

Allen, Texas – The two-time defending Kelly Cup champion Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced that the club has signed defenseman Aaron Gens to a contract for the 2016-17 season.

Gens, a native of Baudette, Minn., returns for a third year in Allen, coming off two straight championship seasons with the Americans. Gens has accumulated 86 points in two years with Allen, including the most-ever by an Allen defenseman in 2014-15 with 56.

He has played in 212 games as a professional, with his best numbers as a pro coming with the Americans. Prior to Allen, he played one season each with Reading and Evansville in the ECHL, and seven games in the American Hockey League with the Lake Erie Monsters in 2012.

Prior to turning pro, Gens played four years of college hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks from 2009-12. Prior to that, he played four seasons of junior hockey with both the Topeka Roadrunners and Santa Fe Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League.
