ECHL teams are always giving back to their local communities. Here's a look at some recent events from select teams.

Atlanta – The first-ever Glads' Youth Hockey Camp, powered by The Cooler, took place July 11-16. It was an opportunity for Metro Atlanta youth players to learn from – and meet – some Gladiator greats, while improving their game at the same time. Check out video of the event by clicking here.

Brampton – Beast mascot Boomer joined NHL players Kris Versteeg, Matt Martin and Sean Monahan at the Smilezone Celebrity Golf Tournament on July 18 at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club. The tournament aims to raise funds to help Smilezone accomplish its mission “to create, build and transform areas in hospitals, private treatment and development centres, and children’s clinics in order to improve the lives of children facing illness, disabilities, and physical and emotional obstacles.” Boomer helped bring smiles to the children in attendance at the event.

Fort Wayne – Every year, the Komets are asked to walk in the Three Rivers Parade, the kick-off to a week long festival. For the 48th annual parade, Komets announcer Bob Chase was designated the Grand Marshal. Downtown was shut down for the 150 float parade on July 9, and thousands of people lined the streets. Komets' player Mike Embach also competed in the ‘luscious legs’ contest at the festival, to help raise money for local veterans.

Missouri – On July 17, Mavericks' Mascot Mac teamed up with the Jr. Mavs Youth Hockey organization for the first annual Cowtown Ball Hockey Classic. The event included five age divisions of ball hockey competition – including some participants who were experiencing hockey for the first time! Mavericks staff joined the fun to help promote the upcoming season.

Orlando – Solar Bears' Head coach Anthony Noreen and defenseman Eric Baier partnered with RDV Sportsplex and Orange County Parks & Rec to teach the youth in their summer program the fundamentals of the sport of hockey, the importance of teamwork, and sportsmanship. After the presentation Noreen and Baier passed out signed pucks to all of the kids.

Reading – The Royals participated in an awesome event called “When you wish upon a guard” on Saturday, July 30. The team was contacted about an amazing young man, Zach, who lost his leg at the age of 3 from a freak lawn mower accident. An avid Royals fan, Zach’s wish was to bring his family to a game. To top his wish, the Royals decided to sign Zach as a star player for the day! Team President Drew Bell surprised Zach on Saturday with a contract to sign as an official Royals player. Zach will join the team for an upcoming day this season, meet the players, watch practice and head home with his very own jersey! Additionally, Zach and 15 of his closest friends will be able to watch the game from the owner’s suite. It was a great day for a very special young man.
