Former Kelly Cup champion MacLean signs with Beast

BRAMPTON, Ontario - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and AHL's St. John's IceCaps, announced the signing of Brandon MacLean for the 2016-17 season.

The 28-year-old Burlington, Ontario native is coming off an impressive point-per-game season in Germany's DEL2 league. MacLean tallied 48 points (22g-26a) in 46 games in one of Europe's top professional hockey leagues.

Prior to heading overseas, MacLean spent parts of two seasons in the American Hockey League with the IceCaps and Rochester Americans. Between the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, MacLean appeared in 47 AHL contests and recorded three points (1g-2a) and 14 penalty minutes.

MacLean spent three seasons with the Florida Everblades from 2011-14, posting 94 points (31g-63a) in 108 games.

He led his squad in scoring during the 2013-14 campaign, scoring 22 goals and adding 41 assists for 63 points. His point total was good for a share of ninth place in ECHL scoring.

Serving as the Everblades' alternate captain in 2012-13 and 2013-14, he reached the peak of ECHL hockey in the 2011-12 postseason. MacLean was a consistent point producer throughout his 18 playoff games, recording 13 points in the process. He scored the championship-clinching goal in overtime against the Las Vegas Wranglers on May 23, 2012 giving the Everblades a 4 games to 1 win in the Kelly Cup Finals.

Prior to turning pro, MacLean had a successful run in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. He appeared in 246 OHL games from 2004-08 and recorded 111 points. He served as his team's captain during his final year of junior in 2007-08 and put up the best numbers of his junior career, scoring 21 goals and chipping in with 31 assists.

Following his OHL career, he moved to the university ranks where he starred for the Carleton Ravens for four full seasons from 2008 to 2012. He once again proved his leadership in being named team captain for his final season in 2011-12 and recorded an incredible year, playing in 28 games and lighting the lamp 12 times while adding 28 helpers for 40 points.
