ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced the team has signed goaltender Andy Iles to a contract for the 2016-17 season.
Iles, 24, joins the Jackals for his third full professional season after splitting the first two years between the Cincinnati Cyclones, Brampton Beast, Alaska Aces, Atlanta Gladiators and Florida Everblades. Last season, Iles appeared in 43 combined games between Cincinnati, Brampton and Atlanta. He primarily suited up for the Cyclones posting a 16-11-3 record with a 2.88 goals-against-average and a .900 save percentage in 30 games played. Over his first two pro seasons, Iles registered a record of 39-24-6 with a 2.92 goals-against-average and a .897 save percentage.
Prior to turning pro, the Ithaca, N.Y. native had a stellar collegiate career at hometown Cornell University. Iles finished his NCAA career with a 58-42-17 record, a 2.26 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage. He earned a plethora of accolades with the Big Red, including being named the NCAA Ivy-League Player of the Year as a senior. Also as a senior, Iles was named to the NCAA Lowes Senior Class First All-American Team, the All-Ivy League First Team and the ECAC Second All-Star Team. He was also named to the All-Ivy League First Team and ECAC Second All-Star Team as a sophomore. As a freshman, Iles was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team.A product of the U.S. National Team Development Program, Iles represented the United States at the 2011 IIHF U20 World Junior Championships earning a bronze medal and again at the 2010 IIHF U18 World Junior Championships, helping his home nation win the gold medal.
