Prior to turning pro, the native of Shelby Township, Mich. attended Mercyhurst University, where he notched 119 points (45g-74a) in 156 games and was twice named as a second-team All-Conference selection in the AHA. Additionally, he totaled 75 points (26g-49a) in 109 USHL games with the Sioux Falls Stampede and the Muskegon Lumberjacks, and was named as an All-Star with Muskegon in the 2010-11 season.
