WINDSOR, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles, ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced that they have re-signed forward Derek Rodwell for the 2016-17 season.
The 26-year-old winger posted 15 points (4g-11a) in 54 contests with Colorado last season. A fifth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the Taber, Alberta native has netted 34 points (15g-19a) in 118 total games with Colorado.
Prior to joining the pro ranks, Rodwell spent the previous four seasons at the University of North Dakota, where he registered 24 points in 123 games. He also helped UND capture WCHA championships in both 2011 and 2012, while being named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2012 and 2013.
Rodwell enjoyed a very productive career at the junior level with the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL, where he posted 101 points and 146 penalty minutes in 158 total contests. During his final season with the Oilers, Rodwell potted 52 points (18g-35a) in 55 games.
