RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Rapid City Rush, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes, announced that the 2015 ECHL All-Star duo of defenseman Garrett Haar and forward Brenden Walker has been signed for the 2016-17 ECHL season.
Haar joins the Rush defensive unit after finishing his second season as a professional with the Alaska Aces where he registered 14 points (2g-12a). Before joining the Aces, Haar began his pro career with the South Carolina Stingrays where he scored 16 points (4g-12a) in 35 games. His efforts earned him the opportunity to represent the ECHL All-Stars that took on the host Orlando Solar Bears in the 2015 ECHL All-Star Classic. Prior to turning pro, the Huntington Beach, Calif. native played one season with the USHL's Fargo Force, two seasons with Western Michigan University and one season with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks. Haar was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the seventh round (207th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Walker joins the Rush forwards after spending last season overseas with the EIHL's Coventry Blaze. In England, he averaged just shy of a point-per-game, recording 16 points (10g-6a) in 19 games. Walker brings 123 games of ECHL experience to the Rush, skating with the Gwinnett Gladiators and Utah Grizzlies, totaling 93 points (46g-47a). His play in the early stages of the 2014-15 ECHL season earned him the opportunity to represent the ECHL All-Stars against the Orlando Solar Bears in the 2015 ECHL All-Star Classic. Prior to playing professionally, Walker notched 228 points 269 games across four seasons in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Saskatoon Blades, the latter of which he served as captain.
