Veteran forward Bootland re-signs with Eagles

WINDSOR, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles, ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced that they have re-signed forward Darryl Bootland for the 2016-17 season.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward has amassed 69 points and 511 penalty minutes in 107 games with the Eagles. The 2015-16 season saw him finish tied for the ECHL lead with 17 major penalties, while also ending the year tied for second in the league with 259 penalty minutes.

Bootland was selected in the eighth round by the Avalanche in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. The Toronto, Ontario native played 32 games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Islanders, netting one goal, two assists and 85 penalty minutes during that time.

In addition to his ECHL and NHL career, Bootland has collected 168 points and 1,480 penalty minutes in 382 games in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Portland Pirates and Manitoba Moose. He also helped guide the Allen Americans to back-to-back championships in the Central Hockey League in 2013 and 2014.

In total, Bootland returns to Colorado with 471 points and 3,194 penalty minutes in 841 professional games.
