Wydo re-signs for second season with Nailers

WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Nailers, ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, announced that the club has re-signed forward Cody Wydo to an ECHL contract.

Wydo, 25, is coming off of a tremendous rookie campaign, which saw him produce nearly a point-per-game during both the regular season and the playoffs. In late February last season, the Southgate, Mich. native matched the team's high mark with an eight-game point streak, leading into an outstanding month of March, which began with the club's lone hat trick in a 7-4 triumph at Reading on March 4. Wydo took home ECHL Player of the Week honors that week, then went on to win ECHL Rookie of the Month recognition for March, as he posted 18 points in 13 games. He finished the regular season tied for second on the squad in goals (23) and points (50), while tying for the team lead in game winning goals (5). The first-year forward continued to shine in the playoffs, racking up 21 points (12g-9a) in 26 games, including a four-point night against Florida and a triple overtime winning goal against Reading.

Wydo is very familiar with this region of the country, as he played four years of college hockey at Robert Morris University, prior to turning pro. Wydo set school records for the Colonials in career goals (85) and points (150 - now ranks 2nd), while suiting up in 151 games. His best season was his junior year of 2013-14, when he exploded for a school record 31 goals, while compiling 54 points, which currently stands as the second-highest total in RMU history. The following year, Wydo amassed 43 points in 37 games, and was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. After finishing his senior season, Wydo came to Wheeling, where he picked up six points in nine games, including a goal and an assist in his ECHL debut.
