Neil Graham is in his fourth season as Steelheads’ Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. Graham has led the Steelheads to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons as head coach, with the Steelheads finishing second in the Mountain Division in 2017-18. Graham served as Idaho’s full-time assistant coach during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons after serving as a player/coach for the 2012-13 campaign. He assumed the head job on Aug. 7, 2015.
Now 33-years-old, Graham was the youngest head coach in Steelheads history at the time of his hiring. Under Graham, the Steelheads ranked second in the league penalty-killing percentage each of the his first two seasons, and they ranked fourth in his final year as assistant coach. Graham led the Steelheads to one of their best statistical seasons in the ECHL era in 2017-18, earning 44 wins and 96 points, tied for the fourth-most wins and fourth-most points for a Steelheads team in the ECHL era. Graham’s squad was sixth place in the ECHL’s overall league standings in 2017-18.
The Calgary, Alberta native is a graduate of Mercyhurst University where he played hockey for four seasons before turning pro. He split three seasons between the ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League, scoring 98 points (42g-56a) in 113 professional games.
Graham is the fifth head coach during Idaho’s ECHL tenure and seventh overall since pro hockey arrived in Idaho in 1997.
