WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Nailers, ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, announced that the team has signed defenseman Kyle Flemington to a contract for the 2016-17 season.

Flemington, 24, will make his North American professional debut this season, after spending each of the last two years playing in Scotland with the Edinburgh Capitals of the Elite Ice Hockey League. During the course of those two seasons, Flemington appeared in a total of 99 games, accumulating 21 points (3g-18a) and 243 penalty minutes. His 99 penalty minutes in 2014-15 ranked third on the team, while his 144 minutes in the box this past year ranked second on the club and seventh in the league.

Prior to his time in Europe, the Parkhill, Ontario native played parts of four seasons of junior hockey in the OHL, in addition to parts of three seasons in the GOJHL. Flemington's OHL time was split between the Saginaw Spirit, Sarnia Sting, and London Knights, as he appeared in 117 games. In 2012-13, he played with the St. Marys Lincolns and St. Thomas Stars of the GOJHL, combining for 14 points and 121 penalty minutes.
