Jamie Russell enters his second season as the Railers’ head coach and general manager. In the team’s inaugural season, Russell led Worcester to a 22-8-3 mark over the final 33 games and into the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Russell, 52, spent two seasons (2014-16) with the Elmira Jackals as their head coach and director of hockey operations and compiled a record of 69-63-12.
Prior to his time in Elmira, Russell spent three seasons from 2011-14 at Providence College as an assistant coach and helped guide the Friars to their first NCAA Tournament in 13 seasons in 2014. The native of Kamloops, British Columbia spent eight seasons at Michigan Tech as head coach from 2003-11 and was named the 2007 WCHA Coach of the Year. Russell has also served as an assistant coach at Cornell University (1999-2003) and Ferris State University (1994-99).
Prior to his coaching career, Russell played collegiate hockey at Michigan Tech from 1987-89 before turning pro and playing two seasons in the ECHL with Winston-Salem from 1989-91. Russell also played for the Binghamton Whalers of the American Hockey League during the 1989-90 season. He has a Master of Business Administration from Lake Superior State University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan Technology University. Russell and his wife, Linda, have three sons (Ben 19, Charlie 14, Graeme 12).
