The Quad City Mallards used a 3-0-0 week last week to move into third place of the competitive Central Division with an overall mark of 10-6-1 for 21 points.
Quad City began last week with a 4-2 win at Cincinnati on Wednesday. The Mallards scored the first three goals of the game and after the Cyclones pulled to within a goal, Sam Warning scored his second goal of the game midway through the third period to provide the winning margin. Adam Vay stopped 31 shots to record the win while Justin Kovacs (3a). Guillaume Gelinas (1g-1a) and Chris Francis (1g-1a) also posted multi-point games in the win.
The Mallards returned home on Friday for their only home game in a stretch of six contests and picked up a 4-3 shootout win over Indy. Mike Wilson posted two assists in the win while Warning scored once in regulation and added the clinching goal in the shootout. C.J. Motte made 28 saves, and stopped the only two shootout attempts he faced, to pick up the win.
Quad City ended the week with a 6-2 win at Fort Wayne on Saturday. After spotting the Komets a 1-0 lead early in the second period, the Mallards responded with four straight goals to take control of the game. Six different Mallards’ found the back of the net in the victory with Warning rounding out his solid week with three assists.
Warning leads the Mallards on the season with eight goals while his 17 points are tied with Kovacs (6g-11a) for the team lead. Motte is tied for second in the league with a .939 save percentage while his 2.03 goals-against average ranks fifth. The second-year pro is 7-2-0 in 10 appearances this season.
The Mallards continue their busy stretch of road games this week, playing at Brampton on Thursday and Friday and Toledo on Saturday.
