The Brampton Beast defeated the Reading Royals 3-1 on Monday in Game 6 of the North Division Semifinals. With the win, Brampton advances to the North Division Finals where it will meet the winner of the Adirondack/Manchester series. The Monarchs lead that series 3 games to 2 with Game 6 at Adirondack on Tuesday.
The Beast trailed 1-0 on Monday entering the third period, but pulled even on a Luke Pither tally 7:21 into the final frame and got the game winner from Brandon Marino at 13:38. Marino added an empty-net goal with 15 seconds left to set the final.
Brandon MacLean scored a team-leading three goals in the series for the Beast while Jordan Henry led the way with six points (2g-4a). Zachary Fucale went 4-1 with a 1.20 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage. Reading was led by Chris McCarthy, who had five points (0g-5a).
Five of the six games in the series were decided by one goal, with two of the games determined in overtime. The teams combined for 21 goals in the series, the fewest goals in a six-game series in ECHL postseason history.
