The Colorado Eagles advanced to the Mountain Division Finals in the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs on Saturday with a 6-3 defeat of the Idaho Steelheads. The victory gave the Eagles a 4-1 series victory and they will meet the defending Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans in the second round.
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period of Saturday night's game off goals from Julien Nantel, Luke Salazar and Cam Maclise. Travis Walsh put one in for the Steelheads at the end of the first to cut the lead to two heading into the first intermission. Each team scored twice in the second period to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead heading into the third period. Ryan Harrison was the lone player to score in the third period and secured the Eagles' 6-3 victory.
Alex Belzile (5G, 4A) and Matt Register (3G, 6A) led the way in the series for the Eagles. Lukas Hafner earned a 2.75 GAA in the four games he played, while having a .897 save percentage. Kent Simpson appeared in one game earning a 3.04 GAA and .857% save percentage.
The Steelheads were led by Rob Linsmayer who had six points (2G, 4A) in the series. Landon Bow faced 123 shots in the four games he appeared in, earning a 3.49 GAA and 0.886 save percentage.
