ESTERO, Fla. – Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig brush along with Head Coach Brad Ralph announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Joe Cox and defenseman Nelson Armstrong for the 2017-18 season.
The Everblades are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes and the American Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers.
Cox appeared in five games with the Everblades after concluding his senior season at Michigan State University in 2016-17. The 23-year-old recorded 14 points (7g-7a) in 35 games in his senior season with the Spartans. Cox captained the Spartans for two seasons, totaling 69 points (27g-42a) during his four-year collegiate career. The Chelsea, Mich. native also totaled 60 points in two seasons with the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks 2011-2013.
Armstrong returns to Florida where he logged four assists in 12 appearances this past spring. The 23-year-old blueliner registered 29 points (5g-24a) during his two seasons at the University of Prince Edward Island (2014-16). The Peterborough, Ontario native played two seasons with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League, posting 58 points (13g-45a). Armstrong also played two seasons at St. Lawrence University from 2011-13.
