Hirschfeld re-signs with Walleye

Toledo, Ohio – The Toledo Walleye announced that team captain Alden Hirschfeld has agreed to terms with the team for the 2017-18 season.

The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings and the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Hirschfeld was named captain during the 2016-17 season a season in which he posted a career best 23 goals while also generating a new career high 49 points and finishing as a +17. This will be the fifth year that he has worn a Walleye uniform appearing in 190 games, which ranks fourth on the Walleye's all-time list, while accruing 57 goals (T-3rd), 91 assists (4th), 148 points (4th) and 75 penalty minutes. Hirschfeld is the Walleye all-time leader in career shorthanded goals with six including three this past season.

Over his career, Hirschfeld has 156 points (61g-95a) in 208 games in the ECHL starting in 2012-13 with South Carolina. He has also seen time in over 68 career contests between Grand Rapids, Providence and Portland in the AHL while scoring 13 points (6g-7a). On Feb. 22, 2015, Hirschfeld posted single game Toledo Walleye records with five assists, six points and a plus seven as the Walleye defeated Gwinnett 12-0.

Prior to turning professional, the 29-year-old appeared in 134 games over four seasons with the Miami Univeristy RedHawks. In those contests, Hirschfeld scored 70 points (35g-35a). He was a member of the 2011 CCHA championship team and was captain in the 2011-12 season.
