Reading, Pa. –The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Emil Romig.

Romig, who hails from Wien, Austria, will be entering his first season of professional play. Last year as a senior at the University of Denver, he registered a career high 15 points (9g-6a) in 36 games with the Pioneers and helped lead them to their eighth NCAA Division I National Championship in program history.  Romig and his Denver teammates qualified for the NCAA Tournament all four years in which he was enrolled. He also was an Academic All Conference selection for the NCHC a total of three times. In 135 career games with the Pioneers, Romig recorded 43 points (23g-20a) and 67 penalty minutes.

Prior to his collegiate career, Romig had a terrific stint in international play. In 2009, Romig and his Team Austria teammates claimed the bronze medal at the IIHF U-18 (Division 1-B) World Junior Championships. Two years later, Romig and his teammates would claim bronze again, this time in the U-20 (Division 1-B) WJC. In 2010, he won a Czech Junior League championship with HC Zlin, a team for which he scored 100 points (42g-58a) in 140 career starts. Romig made the jump to North America in 2011-12 with the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League. Romig tallied 18 points (10g-8a) in 57 games, and moved to the North American Hockey League the next season, joining the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, where he would end up second on the team in scoring in 2012-13 with 54 points (17g-37a) in 54 games.
