Bershbach, Jenks return to Walleye

Toledo, Ohio – Forwards Shane Berschbach and AJ Jenks have agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2017-18 season. The two have combined for 332 points over the last three years in Walleye uniforms.

The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings and the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Berschbach, a native of Clawson, Mich., set a new single season Walleye records with 68 assists and 86 points during the 2016-17 season. The ECHL named him the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award winner for a second consecutive season and finished as a forward on the All-ECHL Second Team. Heading into this season he is the Walleye All-Time leader in points (216) and also holds the top spot in assists (159).

The 26-year-old has appeared in 196 games over the previous three years in Toledo with +42 rating. This past season he completed a career best 70 games played. In three playoff seasons he has performed at a point per game with 47 points (12g-35a) in 45 contests. Berschbach was named to the All-ECHL First Team following the 2015-16 season with 67 points featuring a career-best 24 goals with 43 assists.

Berschbach spent four years at Western Michigan University prior to turning professional. As a Bronco, he posted 117 points (39g-78a) as was a _27 in 146 games. He set career highs as a senior with 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points. In 2011-12, he helped Western Michigan to a CCHA Tournament championship.

Jenks, a native of Wolverine Lake, Mich., posted a career high 46 points (19g-27a) in 46 contests with the Walleye while adding in another goal in seven games for Iowa in the AHL last season. In three seasons with Toledo, he has 116 points (57g-59a) spanning 143 contests while playing with a +16 rating. Jenks ranks fifth in all-time Walleye games played while he is tied for third in goals and sits fifth in all-time in career assists.

Since 2009, the 26-year-old has appeared in 211 total ECHL games between Toledo, Florida, Cincinnati and Charlotte with 160 points (79g-81a). A fourth-round selection of the Florida Panthers in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Jenks has also collected 48 points (20g-28a) in 190 games played in the AHL between Iowa, Grand Rapids, Rochester, San Antonio and Charlotte.

Prior to turning professional, Jenks spent four years with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League. He had 193 points (79g-114a) over 249 games with the Whalers. He set career highs in assists (40) and points (63) in 2009-10 while serving as team captain.
