Railers add first-year forward Murphy

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced that the club has signed right wing Wade Murphy to a contract for the 2017-18 season.

Murphy joins the Railers after finishing his collegiate career last season with the Arizona State University Sun Devils and going on to make his ECHL debut with the Manchester Monarchs, playing in 14 games and posting six points (2g-4a) and 15 penalty minutes.

The Victoria, British Columbia native made his college debut for the University of North Dakota and played two seasons (2013-14 and 2014-15), before transferring to Arizona State, where he finished with 20 points (9g-11a) and 30 penalty minutes in 31 games as a senior.

Before college, the 23-year-old spent four seasons playing in the British Columbia Hockey League for the Victoria Grizzlies and Penticton Vees where he had 181 points (69g-112a) in 172 games. Murphy served as alternate captain in his last season with the Vees, and recorded 11 points (5g-6a) and 12 penalty minutes in 15 playoff games.

Murphy was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the seventh round (185th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
