Schiedl returns for fourth season with K-Wings

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — After a career season in 2016-17, the Kalamazoo Wings,  ECHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, have re-signed Lane Scheidl to a contract for the 2017-18 season.

Scheidl, 25, returns to the Wings for his fifth season of pro hockey and his fourth in Kalamazoo. He is coming off the most productive season of his career, as he set career highs in goals (28), points (51) and shorthanded goals (three) during the 2016-17 campaign.  His 51 points in 67 games were good enough for third most among Wings’ skaters, and his three shorthanded goals led the way for Kalamazoo.

The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, scored in bunches all season long, as Scheidl tallied 12 multi-point games during 2016-17. He capped off the regular season on a five-game point streak in which he notched 11 points (6g-5a).

Scheidl made his professional debut in 2013 with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League, and has increased his seasonal point totals in each of his first four pro seasons. With 249 career games under his belt, Scheidl brings experience and productivity to the Kalamazoo lineup on a nightly basis. Since 2014, he has seen action in 215 career ECHL games and has logged 128 points (61g-67a), and he is credited with seven career points in 34 games played at the AHL level.

Prior to turning pro, Scheidl played four season in the Western Hockey League with the Vancouver Giants, Red Deer Rebels and Regina Pats. In 277 career WHL games, the forward tallied 186 points (88g-98a). He solidified himself as a potential star during his last season of juniors, in which he led Regina with 80 points in 72 games and was one of the team’s alternate captains.
