Steelheads agree to terms with defenseman Corbett

Boise, Idaho – Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Cody Corbett for the 2017-18 season. Corbett is preparing for his fourth professional season.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

Corbett played parts of last season in the ECHL and in the American Hockey League, finishing the season with the South Carolina Stingrays and playing a significant role in their run to the Kelly Cup Finals. The Lakeland, Minn. native was a Colorado Avalanche prospect at the start of last season, playing 23 games with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage and seven with the Colorado Eagles. In March, he was traded to the Washington Capitals and assigned to the Stingrays.

The 23-year-old earned ten points (2g-8a) in San Antonio last season, while recording 11 points (3g-8a) in 18 games between Colorado and South Carolina. He registered nine points (1g-8a) in 22 playoffs games for the Stingrays, tying for the team lead in scoring among defensemen.

Corbett has played in 145 regular-season games over his first three pro seasons. In 93 AHL games with Lake Erie and AHL San Antonio, Corbett has totaled 25 points (8g-17a). In 52 ECHL games with Fort Wayne, Colorado and South Carolina, Corbett has scored 30 points (8g-22a).

Prior to signing an NHL contract with the Avalanche in March of 2014, Corbett played three seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Edmonton Oil Kings, serving as an alternate captain in his final year. In addition to 129 points (30g-99a) in 190 junior games, Corbett won WHL championships in 2012 and 2014, a Memorial Cup Championship in 2014 and was named to the 2014 Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
