Adirondack enjoying success on lengthy road trip

The Adirondack Thunder continued their 12-game road trip last week, picking up seven of a possible eight points to improve their record to 4-2-1 as the trek enters the back half this week.

Adirondack began last week with a 4-1 win at Quad City on Wednesday. Four different Thunder players recorded goals in the win with James Henry leading the way with two points (1g-1a). Nick Riopel notched the win in goal stopping 22 Mallards’ shots.

On Friday, the Thunder opened a two-game series at Kalamazoo with another 4-1 victory. Connor Ingram, who was reassigned to the team by the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, turned aside 33 of the 34 shots he faced to pick up the win in his ECHL debut. Adirondack’s power play keyed the victory, scoring twice in five opportunities.

Adirondack wrapped the two-game set on Saturday with a 5-2 victory, keyed by Austin Orszulak’s two-goal game. Henry and Pierre-Luc Mercier each added a goal and an assist while Ingram made 25 saves to record his second straight win.

The Thunder concluded the weekend with a 2-1 shootout loss at Brampton on Sunday. Ty Loney extended his goal streak to five games with the tying goal less than a minute into the final period while Ingram stopped 37 shots in his third straight start.

Loney is tied for fourth in the league with nine goals while his 15 points lead the team and are tied for eighth in the league. Mercier is tied for second among rookies with nine assists and is tied for sixth among first-year players with 11 points.

This week, the Thunder visit Wheeling on Tuesday, Norfolk on Thursday and Manchester on Saturday.
