Comeback wins propel Swamp Rabbits to four-game winning streak

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits certainly earned the moniker of “comeback kids” last weekend, rallying from at least two-goal deficits in each outing on their way to a 3-0-0 record which extended their winning streak to four games.

Wednesday, the Swamp Rabbits trailed Kansas City 3-0 and 5-2 before mounting a rally on their way to a 7-5 victory. Down 5-2 less than three minutes into the second period, Greenville began a furious rally with four goals in a little over 10 minutes in the middle frame to take a 6-5 lead. A shorthanded goal from Joe Houk six minutes into the second period provided some insurance and set the final. Allan McPherson paced the Swamp Rabbits with four points (1g-3a) while Adam Chapie chipped in with three points (2g-1a). Ty Rimmer stopped all 17 shots he faced in 37 minutes of relief action to earn the win in goal.

Two nights later, Greenville fell behind South Carolina 2-0 before reeling off the final three goals of the game in a 3-2 triumph. Houk scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning tally with 2:09 remaining in the third period. Rimmer was again solid between the pipes, turning aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced.

Greenville faced  a pair of two-goal deficits on Saturday against Jacksonville before again donning the rally caps on its way to a 5-4 win. Five different Swamp Rabbits picked up goals in the win with McPherson notching his second four-point game of the week with a goal and three assists. Brandon Halverson got the win in goal with 31 saves on 35 shots.

The Swamp Rabbits have the top two scorers in the ECHL with McPherson leading the way with 16 points (5g-11a) and Chapie tied for second with 14 points (6g-8a). Houk’s four goals are tied for fourth among defensemen and his seven points are tied for 12th among blueliners. Greenville also possesses the top offense in the league, averaging 4.44 goals per game.

The Swamp Rabbits hit the road for a pair of games this week, visiting Orlando on Tuesday and Thursday.
