Eagles advance with Game 6 win

The defending Kelly Cup champion Colorado Eagles punched their ticket to the second round of the postseason on Monday with a 5-3 win at Wichita in Game 6 of the Mountain Division Semifinals. Colorado awaits the winner of the Allen/Idaho series in the Division Finals. The Americans lead that series 3 games to 2 with Game 6 set for Tuesday in Idaho.

With the score tied 3-3 late in the third period, Joey Ratelle gave Colorado the lead for good with 3:34 remaining in regulation with his second goal of the series and an empty-net goal from Matt Garbowsky set the final. Joe Cannata earned the win in goal stopping 16 of the 18 shots he faced after entering the game to start the second period.

J.C. Beaudin led Colorado with four goals in the series and he shared the team lead in points with Michael Joly (2g-5a) and Matt Register (0g-7a) with seven points each.

Mark MacMillan and Evan Polei shared the Thunder lead with three goals in the series while Dyson Stevenson posted a team-leading six points (2g-4a).
