The final spot in the Division Finals of the 2018 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be decided tonight when the Idaho Steelheads host the Allen Americans in Game 7 of their Mountain Division Semifinals series. The 42nd Game 7 in ECHL postseason history, and the 18th over the last four playoff seasons, faces off at 7:10 p.m. MT and you can catch all of the action LIVE on ECHL.TV.
Idaho is just the fourth team in ECHL postseason history to force a seventh game after falling behind in a series 0-3. The only team to win a series after losing the first three games was Cincinnati in the 2010 American Conference Finals. The other teams to force a deciding game were Cincinnati in the 2003 Northern Conference Finals and Toledo in the 2015 Eastern Conference Finals.
The Steelheads are playing in their third Game 7, and are seeking their first win. Idaho fell to Allen in the 2016 Western Conference Quarterfinals and to Las Vegas in the 2006 West Division Semifinals. Tonight marks the first time Idaho will play a Game 7 on home ice.
Allen is 3-0 in its previous Game 7 appearances, all of which came at home. In addition to its 2016 win over Idaho, the Americans also defeated Ontario in the 2015 Western Conference Finals and South Carolina in the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals.
Wednesday's game is the 42nd Game 7 all-time in ECHL postseason history. The home team is 29-12 all-time in ECHL Game 7s and has won 16 of the last 21 Game 7s.
