The defending Kelly Cup champion Colorado Eagles opened the 2018 Kelly Cup Finals on Friday with a 3-1 win over the Florida Everblades at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.
The Eagles came out firing in the first period, outshooting Florida 17-8 and taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission on goals from Matt Register and Drayson Bowman.
Florida got on the scoreboard 8:02 into the second period on Sam Warning's fourth goal of the playoffs, but Colorado's Shawn St-Amant added an empty-net goal with 1:14 remaining in the third period.
Joe Cannata earned the win in goal for the Eagles with 27 saves while Florida's Martin Ouellette made 23 saves in the loss.
