Komets move on to Western Conference Finals

The Fort Wayne Komets advanced to the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday with a 4-2 win over Toledo in Game 6 of the Central Division Finals.

Fort Wayne, which will be appearing in the Conference Finals for the second time in the last three years, will meet the defending Kelly Cup champion Colorado Eagles in the next round.

Trailing 2-1 late in the first period, Jason Binkley pulled the Komets even with a power-play goal at 18:13 and Gabriel Desjardins put Fort Wayne ahead for good with his sixth goal of the playoffs 10:01 into the second period. Shawn Szydlowski added an empty-net goal with 1:02 left to set the final.

Desjardins led the Komets in the series with four goals and six points while Michael Houser went 4-2 with a 2.18 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.

A.J. Jenks and Dylan Sadowy shared the team lead for Toledo in the series with three goals and Shane Berschbach posted a team-leading five points (2g-3a).
