INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks and the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, announced that they have signed forward Logan Nelson to a contract for the 2018-19 season.
Nelson, 24, registered 19 points (7g-12a) in 21 games after arriving to Indy via a trade from the Fort Wayne Komets on Feb. 22. He played an integral role in the Fuel clinching their first-ever Kelly Cup Playoffs berth last spring, tallying 12 points (6g-6a) over Indy’s last 10 regular-season games. Prior to his arrival in the Circle City, Nelson saw action in 45 contests split between Fort Wayne, Orlando and Norfolk, picking up a total of 16 points (3g-13a).
Through four seasons in the ECHL, Nelson has accumulated 117 points (51g-66a) and 180 penalty minutes in 212 total games. Since entering the league in 2014-15 with the Quad City Mallards, the native of Rogers, Minnesota has skated for seven different teams, setting a career high mark with his 35 points last season.
Prior to becoming a professional, Nelson spent three seasons with the Victoria Royals in the Western Hockey League, where he put up 159 points (60g-99a) in 179 games. A fifth-round selection (133rd overall) of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Nelson ranked amongst the Royals’ top five point scorers in two of his three seasons with the club, eclipsing the 50-point mark in 2011-12 and 2013-14.
